Nava Waxman @ ENGINE GALLERY

Nava Waxman @ ENGINE GALLERY

“New Work” til Nov. 17

Waxman has many common elements in her paintings: electrical lines, elephants, birds and butterflies, trees and pin wheels.  The lyrical play of safe but not clearly related elements makes for a gentle surrealism.  Dreamscapes of a circus or carnival from an earlier time.

The encaustic pieces all share a similar textured beige pallet recminiscent of yellowed photographs.

First solo show for Nava Waxman and first showing at Engine Gallery.  According to the gallerist, Waxman is prolific.  She created the twenty or so medium-sized picture works in under six months and is the mother of two young children.  She is a driven woman.

Reasonably priced.  It’s the kind of thing that won’t make her an art star, but it is also the kind of thing that people hang on their walls.
